Make a Donation

We believe that effective interventions can break the cycle of poverty but because we are not funded by the government, we solely depend on donations to continue serving the communities of Sekhukhune District.

You don’t have to be a millionaire to make a significant difference. Even small donations have the potential to dramatically improve an individual’s quality of life.

Integrated Primary Health Care

Primary health care is the first level of contact with the health system to promote health, prevent illness, care for common illnesses, and manage on-going health problems. It can therefore be argued that primary care is the backbone of any effective health system that aims for better population health. The Ndlovu Medical Centre plays a proactive role in promoting health and preventing disease in addition to diagnosis, treatment and care. Ndlovu Medical Centre has a scale of services that will cover quality health care services for 90% of the medical problems that it sees on a daily basis.

HIV / AIDS

Since 2003, Hugo Tempelman and his team have been treating HIV patients in the Ndlovu Medical Center with the antiretroviral therapies. Although the drugs improve the immune system and make patients less susceptible to dangerous infections. They increase life expectancy and significantly improve quality of life.

An HIV vaccine is the ultimate goal for intensive research groups. In April 2016, the HIV Vaccine Trails Network contacted Dr. Hugo Tempelman. The network has developed an AIDS vaccine and now wants to start the human study after the animal testing phase.

Tuberculosis

All clients who visit Ndlovu Medical Centre are screened by means of a questionnaire for Tuberculosis and if the questionnaire shows clinical signs then further diagnosis work can be done in-house; sputum lab tests, X-rat, etc. Through early detection and referral for treatment, Ndlovu Medical Centre as a health care provider involved in primary health care is a frontline supplier of care to patients and can contribute significantly to reducing the burden of TB. This role is particularly important since a delay in detecting infectious TB patients presents a threat to the surrounding community.

Cervical Cancer Management

Ndlovu Medical Centre has initiated, in the early years of the HIV treatment program, a Cervical Cancer Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment program on-site at Ndlovu Medical Centre. The Medical Doctors are trained to perform colposcopies and manage the early lesions through laser surgical treatment.

Large loop excision of the transformation zone (LLETZ), is the most common way of removing cervical tissue for examination and treating (pre-)cancerous changes of the cervix (CIN 2 and CIN 3). The abnormal tissue is removed using a thin wire loop that is heated electrically. The tissue is then sent for pathology and if the edges of the excision are clean of cancerous cells and the excision is deep enough as well, the procedure is curative. The women are annually screened through a PAP Smear. This programme is very popular especially by females who are also infected with HIV.

Audiology Services

HIV or AIDS increase the risk of hearing loss and inhibit speech development. Babies of HIV-positive mothers are more likely to suffer from congenital hearing loss as a result of the virus infection or develop hearing impairment over time. These babies have an increased risk of middle ear infections, which can lead to sound transmission difficulties. The loss of hearing inevitably has far-reaching emotional, social, but also professional and therefore economic consequences. This is why surveillance in patients with HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis is important. Hearing loss – a non-communicable disease – is regarded as the most common sensory deficiency in the human population. It is estimated that at least 41 million children under the age of 15 live with hearing loss in developing countries. This makes this disease a silent, overlooked epidemic in developing countries like South Africa.

Since 2014, Ndlovu Wits Audiology (NWA) provides comprehensive ear-and hearing care services. This includes not only the detection, monitoring and treatment of damage, but also contraception through regular community education programmes.

Hearing screening for newborns for early detection is offered at five clinics in the Elandsdoorn area. There are school examinations, ototoxicity tests, monitoring of HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis patients at Ndlovu Care Group clinics and diagnostic tests. The Ndlovu Care Group sees the creation of awareness of the problem as the most important first step. A hearing impaired child is often treated as mentally disturbed. Many signs of the disease can be easily treated at an early stage.

Maternal & Reproductive Health Services

Poor health and poverty often occur together. Therefore, Ndlovu Medical Centre fights poverty by improving the health of thousands of women and girls in the underserved communities of Moutse. Ndlovu Medical Centre is improving women’s health by providing access to health services, and understanding of reproductive health, HIV prevention, and maternal care. Ndlovu believes that access to sexual, reproductive and maternal health services is both a fundamental human right and a critical development issue. Our long-term sexual and reproductive health programmes focus on family planning, ante-natal care, access to services, and prevention, detection and treatment of sexually transmitted infections.

Pharmaceutical Services

A pharmacy with all the essential drugs available to serve Ndlovu Medical Centre is an essential part of our service delivery. The pharmacy also has a research department as Ndlovu is participating in Clinical Trials for which medication, products in development or vaccinations need to be prepared and dispensed. A specialised service for which all our pharmacists are well qualified.

Radiography Department

Radiography Department provides a noninvasive test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. We perform a wide variety of radiographic procedures including: Head, Spine (cervical, thoracic, lumbar), Upper extremeties, Lower extremeties, Pelvis, Shoulder, Chest, Abdomen, Barium contrast studies (upper GI series, barium swallow, lower GI series, barium enema), Myelograms, Arthorograms, Lumbar puncture. Since the body is made up of various substances with differing densities, X-rays can be used to reveal the internal structure of the body on film by highlighting these differences using attenuation, or the absorption of X-ray photons by the denser substances (like calcium-rich bones).
